Overwhelmed and Time Poor? The Busy Mum's Guide to Wellness Clarity

As a busy working mum it often feels like there's no time for you. Between work, family, and everything else, it's easy to feel overwhelmed, disconnected, and unsure of where to start on your wellness journey. This Wheel of Life exercise is designed to give you clarity and help you pinpoint where to focus your energy to start feeling better, without adding more stress to your already full plate.

How It Works:

For each of the 8 sections, you'll mark where you are now on a scale of 1-10 and where you would like to be in the future.

  • Current Score: This is where you are right now. It's a snapshot of your current reality. Don't judge it, just note it.
  • Future Score: This reflects where you'd like to be in the future. It's your vision of balance, health, and happiness.

Don't worry about defining each section perfectly, this exercise is about what's most important to you right now. The goal is to help you visually identify the areas that need your attention and prioritise your first steps in your wellness journey.

Once you've rated each section, use the notes section to record why you've given yourself each score.

This reflection will help you focus on what the priority is and why certain areas of your life need more attention. It's also a great record to look back on in the future and can serve as a useful comparison if you decide to complete the exercise again in the future. By tracking your progress, you'll be able to clearly see how far you've come and which areas are evolving as you continue on your wellness journey.

Next Steps: Small Steps for Big Change

This exercise is the first step toward clarity and taking action on your wellness journey. It's all about focusing on small, sustainable changes that over time lead to big improvements.

Now that you've identified the biggest gaps, choose one thing that you've identified from your Wheel of Life and focus on that as your starting point. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by everything, pick one area that will help you prioritise yourself. That could be setting aside time for physical activity, starting a simple morning routine, or scheduling time for rest. By focusing on just one small change, you can start to build momentum and avoid feeling like you need to fix everything at once.

For example, if you've marked Physical Health & Energy as a key area, start with 15-minute daily walks, a quick yoga or Pilates routine, or even stretching each morning. These small changes add up and will make a big difference over time.

The key is to focus on progress, not perfection. When you take care of yourself first, you're creating the foundation for long-term, sustainable health and well-being.

Start with one achievable goal, and take it one step at a time. Prioritize YOU, because when you feel better, everything else will start to fall into place.
